PERKINSTON — Brittney Triplett and Tyler Evans have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Feb. 6-12.
Triplett, a freshman shortstop from Brandon, went 5-for-8 (.625) in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast victories. She had two doubles, drove in four runs and stole two bases in as many attempts. Triplett was 2-for-4 in a 9-1 win over Alabama Southern. She helped spark a three-run, seventh-inning rally in a 4-3 win over Alabama Southern with an RBI double and then scored the winning run.
Tyler Evans, a sophomore first baseman from D'Iberville, had three multi-hit games, with a double and a homer, and scored eight runs as Mississippi Gulf Coast went 3-1. He homered while going 2-for-3 in a 10-9 loss to Alabama Southern, and followed that up by going 2-for-4 with a double in a 7-5 victory. He had a hit and drove in a run in an 8-5 win over Southwest Tennessee, then went 2-for-3 in a 10-7 win. He scored two runs in every game.
Winston Morgan, a sophomore point guard from Manchester, Conn., averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists and shot 58.8 percent from long range for Gulf Coast in a pair of games. He made 7-of-11 3-point field goals and scored 23 points with 4 assists in a 74-63 victory over Copiah-Lincoln. He made half his 3-point attempts in an 82-78 loss at East Central, scoring 21 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists and making 2 steals.
Eanna Sims, a freshman guard from Jackson, averaged 15.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast games. She had 9 points and 4 rebounds in a 75-62 loss to Copiah-Lincoln, and poured in 21 points with 3 rebounds In a 77-61 loss at East Central. She shot 57.9 percent from the field.
Nora Keehn, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., went 1-0 for Mississippi Gulf Coast's last week. She allowed only an unearned run in a 9-1 victory over Alabama Southern, scattering six hits and striking out two.
Mason Sullivan, a sophomore pitcher from Harrison Central, didn't allow an earned run in two relief appearances and got the save in a 10-7 victory over Alabama Southern. He pitched 3.1 innings in a 10-9 loss at Alabama Southern, allowing three unearned runs on three hits and striking out two. He also had two strikeouts on the way to earning his save.
Noah Tippen, a sophomore from Trussville, Ala., won both his matches in Gulf Coast's 7-2 win over Jones County. He won 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles, and teamed with Noah Rowell to win 8-3 in No. 2 doubles.
Paulina Estrada, a sophomore from San Luis, Mexico, won both her matches in Gulf Coast's 6-3 win over Jones County. She won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and teamed with Bianca Buie to win 8-4 in No. 1 doubles.
