57 MGCCC student-athletes earn NJCAA academic award

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College had 57 players earn NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards, including 15 who had perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.


Gulf Coast ranked first among MACJC schools in the total number of awards and fourth nationally. Last year, the school had 43 honorees. The MGCCC Athletic Department's efforts in the classroom are overseen by Athletic Academic Advisor Julie Gallup.


The All-Academic First Team members, who had the perfect GPAs, include softball's Katelyn Baker (So, Seminary/Seminary), women's soccer's Curissa Beatty (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi), baseball's Ryan Blackburn (Fr, Oak Grove/Oak Grove), men's soccer's Jeff Bruni Jr. (So, Gulfport/Gulfport), women's tennis's Bianca Buie (So, Baia Mare, Romania/Gheorghe Sincai National High School), baseball's Trevor Davis (Fr, Vancleave/Vancleave), Trevor Davis (Fr, Vancleave/Vancleave), softball Lanae Davis (So, East Central/Hurley), women's soccer's Kaitlyn Harwell (Fr., Stone/Wiggins), softball's Kailey Hilderbrand (Fr, Hernando/Hernando), women's soccer's Bailey LaFontaine (Fr., Pearl/Pearl), women's soccer's Casey LaFontaine (So., Pass Christian/Pass Christian), women's tennis' Margarita Lopareva (Fr, Moscow, Russia/School No. 1101), women's tennis' Jenna Lyons (So, Pascagoula/Pascagoula), baseball's Cody Marshall (R-Fr, Fontainbleau/Mandeville, La) and men's tennis' Noah Rowell (So, Wiggins/Stone).


Second Team honors are given to student-athletes with a 3.80-3.99 GPA. Gulf Coast had 20 players achieve that award: women's basketball's MiMi Bishop (So, Madison/Madison Central), women's soccer's Tekiyah Cooper (Fr., Stone/Wiggins), men's soccer's Caleb Counselman (So, Pass Christian/Pass Christian), men's tennis' Reid Cudd (So, Wiggins/Stone), baseball's Dustan Dille (Fr, Brookwood/Tuscaloosa, Ala.), women's basketball's Eden Duckworth (So, Heidelberg/Heidelberg), golf's Colby Entriken (So., Hancock/Pass Christian), softball's Tori Gum (So, Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs), softball's Lauren Hall (Fr, Nettleton/Nettleton), baseball's Nicholas Hertz (Fr, St. Stanislaus/Long Beach), softball's Mya Hopson (Fr, Madison Central/Madison), golf's Miles Jackson (Fr. Biloxi/Biloxi), baseball's Castor Lee (Fr, Gulfport/Gulfport), women's soccer's L.T. Massey (So., Oak Grove/Hattiesburg), Logan McGrew (So, Sumrall/Sumrall), men's tennis' Austin Moore (So, Petal/Petal), baseball's Fisher Ray (Fr, George County/Bruce), baseball's Jacob Roberts (Fr, Gulfport/Gulfport), baseball's Preston Stringer (Fr, Stone/Perkinston) and golf's Brice Wilkinson (Fr. Madison Central/Madison).
