Wilkinson, Cade named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Brice Wilkinson and Kristen Cade have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for April 22-28.


Wilkinson, a sophomore golfer from Madison Central, led Mississippi Gulf Coast to its 11th region/district golf title in 12 years by shooting 5-under at the NJCAA District D Championship. The Bulldogs will defend their national title next month in Indiana.


Kristen Cade, a freshman right-hander from Harrison Central, threw a no-hitter for No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 12-1 win over Southwest, then took a tough-luck loss while pitching a four-hitter at No. 10 Itawamba. She struck out 12 and walked just three.

Truitt Smith, a sophomore left-hander from Stone, allowed just three hits in his longest outing of the season to lift Gulf Coast to a 4-1 win at Northeast. He struck out six in 6.2 innings.


Fisher Ray, a sophomore designated hitter from George County, batted .500 with .600 OBP during a 1-3 week for Gulf Coast. He had hits in all four games, including a pair of 2-for-4 games at Northwest in a 10-8 loss and a 4-1 win. At No. 7 Jones, he went 1-for-3 with a two-run triple in a 7-6 loss and had a pinch-hit RBI double in a 6-3 loss.


Bailey Massey, a freshman outfielder from Bruce, batted .500 for the Lady Bulldogs with an on-base percentage of .647. She went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs in a 12-1 win at Southwest, then went 1-for-3 in the second game, an 8-3 victory. Massey went 2-for-3 with a double in a 2-1 loss in the second game at No. 10 Itawamba.
