PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast lefty Dylan Mills-Derouen has been named MACJC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after his two-win performance last week.
"Dylan had a great week," Bulldogs coach Rodney Batts said. "We needed him to be big and he was. Every time he goes to the mound, he gives us a chance."
Mills-Derouen, a sophomore from Biloxi, had two complete-game victories, allowing only one unearned run on six hits while striking out 15.
He struck six in a five-inning 11-1 four-hitter against Southwest, then came back on three days rest to shut out East Mississippi 3-0. He struck out nine and allowed only two hits.
"What he did last week throwing two games in a matter of four days, two complete games, the back end was better than the first one," Batts said. "That was not only big for us, but it's big for him and a well-deserved honor."
Mills-Derouen leads the team with four complete games and three shutouts. Gulf Coast's ace is 9-3 with a 2.89 ERA. He has 74 strikeouts in 62.1 innings and has signed with the University of West Florida to continue his playing career.
He won MACJC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week awards last year following a no-hitter against East Central.
