Parker hits for cycle; Bulldogs sweep MDCC

Brandon Parker hit for the cycle in a 15-4 win in seven innings in the opener at Mississippi Delta and wound up with 10 RBI Sunday after a 15-5 win in six innings in the second game in Moorhead.

"We played well," Gulf Coast coach Rodney Batts said. "Every time we get a sweep on the road, I say how big it is. It's not easy to go anywhere on the road in this league and win two. It was a good day. We swung the bats well all day and pitched well when we needed to."

The Bulldogs improved to 25-7 overall, 9-5 MACJC. The Bulldogs have a midweek open date and return to action Saturday at Northwest. First pitch is at 2 p.m.

Delta is 11-18, 3-9.

Parker (Fr, West Harrison/Saucier) had a single in the first inning, an RBI double in the third, and a three-run homer and a two-run triple in the seventh. He finished with six RBI.

Dylan Menhennett (So, Biloxi/Biloxi), Cullan O'Shea (Fr, Mary G. Montgomery/Mobile, Ala.), Chase Fagan (R-So, Hancock/Poplarville) and Castor Lee (Fr, Gulfport/Gulfport) had two hits each. Lee had three RBI and Menhennett two.

Ty Barnes (So, Petal/Petal) picked up his third straight win to improve to 6-2. He struck out nine in six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs.

O'Shea hit his ninth home run in the second game as the Bulldogs' bats remained red hot. Parker, Menhennett, Ike Williams (Fr, St. Martin/Biloxi) and Alden Davis (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had three hits.

"It was all throughout the order," Batts said. "Brandon had another one of those days. He was big, but he wasn't the only one. There were guys all throughout our lineup who had good days."

Parker added four more RBI to give him 10 on the day. He's got 63 on the season and leads the nation in home runs and RBI.

His home run in the fifth came one pitch after he broke his bat on a foul ball.

"That was a weird deal," Batts said. "He breaks it, goes and gets another one he hasn't used all year and hits a three-run home run on the next pitch. That was pretty wild."

Williams drove in three runs, and Davis and O'Shea had two each.

Ryan Blackburn (Fr, Oak Grove/Oak Grove) didn't allow an earned run in three innings of relief to pick up his first decision of the season.
