PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Cheer Team will hold tryouts for its 2018-19 season on March 25.
The team, which competed in its second national championships last month, will have its tryouts at 1 p.m. at the Weathers/Wentzell Center on MGCCC's Perkinston Campus.
There will be two pre-tryout clinics held March 11 and 18 at 1 p.m. Each clinic will be held at the WWC and costs $25. Attendance at one is mandatory, but you can attend both. The mascot position for the team has already been filled.
Participants are required to fill out a tryout packet and return it by Feb. 18. Included are an application, three recommendation forms, a liability/consent form and GPA verification form.
Men are required to wear navy- or gold-colored solid polo-type shirt and khaki shorts. No jewelry is allowed.
Women are required to navy- or gold-colored sports bra or sports tank top with Nike Pro-type shorts. Hair should be half-up with a bow, with game-day makeup and only pearl earrings. Tall white socks and cheer shoes should be worn.
Participants will need to perform to the MGCCC fight song and a chant of their own.
The following are the stunt requirements:
All-girl: Shoulder Stand, Toss Extension/Pencil Down, Toss Lib/Pop off, Toss Stretch/Full Down and a stunt sequence with transitions.
Co-ed: Toss Shoulder Stand, Toss Extension/Pencil Down, Bump-and-go Lib/Pop off, Bump-and-Go Stretch/Full Down, and a stunt sequence with transitions.
Here are the tumbling requirements:
Girl: Standing Tuck, Back Handspring Tuck, Round-Off Tuck and Round-Off-Back Handsprings to any advanced skill.
Guys: Standing Tuck.
