SCOOBA – Mississippi Gulf Coast lost 49-10 to No. 2 East Mississippi at Sullivan-Windham Field, suffering a slew of early mistakes that unleashed an avalanche.

"We did not take advantage of the opportunities when they were presented to us," Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said. "We were a little undisciplined. I take the blame for this one. I will learn from this, and I hope this football team will grow from this."

The Bulldogs fall to 1-1 on the season heading into MACJC South Division play next week at Copiah-Lincoln. The Lions are 2-0.

East Mississippi scored touchdowns on seven of nine possessions. The Lions were up 14-0 when Mason Hunt (Fr, Stone/Wiggins) kicked a 25-yard field goal, his first of the season for the Bulldogs.

Larry Sisson (So, Resurrection/Pascagoula), who came in to replace a nicked up Torrance Gibson (So, American Heritage/Plantation, Fla.) at quarterback, completed a 3-yard fade to Tyquan Ulmer (Fr, Laurel/Laurel) in the fourth quarter for the last score of the game.

The Bulldogs put together a 15-play drive that ended at the EMCC 2-yard line as time expired.

Gulf Coast threw two interceptions, including a pick-6.

"It's about doing the little things right," Huff said. "When you don't do those things playing a good football team on a road, they're capable of exposing you and scoring some points."

Hunt was effective in the punting game, too. His four punts averaged 44.8 yards with no returns. Three of them were downed inside the 20.

Saivion Smith (So., IMG Academy/St. Petersburg, Fla.) averaged 27.2 yards per kickoff return with a long of 43.

Gibson and Deandre Torrey (Fr, Gautier/Gautier) had 50 yards rushing. Sisson completed 6 of 9 passes for 101 yards. Ulmer had five catches for 68 yards.

Gulf Coast plays Co-Lin on Thursday in Wesson. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

"I'm looking forward to getting this football team back to Perk and getting to work," Huff said. "That's what I'm ready to do. We're 0-0 in the South Division and have everything to play for."
