MGCCC bounces back with 17-point win

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast bounced back from its first loss of the season to close out the MGCCC Thanksgiving Classic with a 73-56 win over Southern-Shreveport at the Weather/Wentzell Center.

"Today, we did a better job running our offense and we made shots we typically make," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "We just responded well to getting beat yesterday."

Qua'darius Green (So, McComb/McComb), DaJuan Moorer (Fr, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic) and Abdul Dial (So, West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) each had 16 points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (4-1) used pressure defense to expand a 37-33 halftime lead. They pushed the bulge to 14 points in the first six minutes on the way to a 22-point advantage with five minutes left.

"We were much more active on defense," Weathers said. "Our defense is what kinda turned that whole thing around. We had some stops which allowed us to get some run-outs."

Southern-Shreveport falls to 1-6.

Gulf Coast returns to action Nov. 28 when the Bulldogs travel to Hattiesburg to play the William Carey JV. Their next home game is Dec. 6 when Delgado visits the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
