Mississippi Gulf Coast started slowly but surged past Delgado on the way to an 85-72 win Thursday in New Orleans.
The game was delayed more than 30 minutes while waiting for the officials to arrive, owing to traffic. The game started with only two on the court, and Bulldogs seemed to lose their focus during the wait, falling behind 9-0.
"We called timeout and had a heart-to-heart talk, then came back out and scored seven straight," said Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers.
Gulf Coast took its first lead with 2:23 to play in the half. The Bulldogs led 49-43 after finishing on a 13-0 run and never looked back.
LaRaymond Spivery (Fr, Lucedale/George County) had 24 points, eight assists and four steals to lead the Bulldogs.
"He had another solid game," Weathers said. "He's doing a really good job."
Abdul Dial (So, West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) had 10 points, two rebounds and two steals in 10 minutes. DaJuan Moorer (Fr, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic) led Gulf Coast with 11 rebounds.
Delgado falls to 2-6.
The Bulldogs (6-1) open MACJC South play Monday when they travel to Utica to play Hinds. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
They return home Dec. 6 when Delgado visits Perkinston for a 7:30 p.m. game.
