No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast got off to a strong start at the Carey Collegiate Classic, with Colin Troxler leading the field.
The Bulldogs shot 1-over as a team and are eight shots behind first-place Coastal Georgia at the par-72 Canebrake Country Club on Monday. Troxler (So., Hahnville/Luling, La.) fired a 6-under 66 to lead by one over Coastal Georgia's Paxton Shuman.
Gulf Coast's Wyatt Adkison (So., East Central/Hurley) also finished in red numbers, with his 1-under good for an eight-place tie.
The field includes four NAIA schools (William Carey, Bethel, Loyola New Orleans, Coastal Georgia), two NCAA Division II schools (Spring Hill, Mississippi College) and fellow MACJC member East Central. East Central is in 10th, 21 shots behind Gulf Coast.
