No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast had six golfers finish in the top 14 at the second MACJC event of the year at Wesson, but No. 5 Meridian's three in the top six trumped them.
The teams figure to continue to battle for the state bragging rights. Gulf Coast won the first event by eight shots.
"This time, we didn't play well and they did," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "That's what happens when you're playing good teams."
The Eagles won by 18 shots, with the Bulldogs' Jackson Wedgeworth (So., West Jones/Soso) earning All-Tournament honors by finishing second at 7-under. He has yet to shoot over par in the first four rounds, finishing behind Meridian's Isaiah Jackson by four shots.
"Jackson played solid, just couldn't get it going today," Snell said. "He got it to 1-under, then fell back to even. He birdied 10, then never could stay under par and stay even with Isaiah. Isaiah played lights out. Sometimes you just have to shake their hand and say they played well."
Brice Wilkinson (Fr. Madison Central/Madison) and Miles Jackson (Fr. Biloxi/Biloxi) tied for eighth at 1-over, with Colby Blake (So., Parklane/Tylertown) in 10th and Colby Entriken (So., Hancock/Pass Christian) in 13th.
The Bulldogs will host the MGCCC Fall Invitational at Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier on Oct. 16-17. It will be the last MACJC event of the fall.
