No. 2 Bulldogs come back, win in playoffs

No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast charged back from five down to win MACJC Event #4 against fourth-ranked Meridian, the hosts, in a playoff, with the Bulldogs winning on the fourth hole of sudden death.

"Beating Meridian at Meridian, especially at Northwood, is huge," said Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell.

The Bulldogs won with a team effort at Northwood Country Club. Miles Jackson (Fr. Biloxi/Biloxi) and Colby Blake (So., Parklane/Tylertown) shot even-par 71s, and Colby Entriken shot 1-over. Jackson Wedgeworth (So., West Jones/Soso) carded the other scoring mark with a 73.

Jackson was the No. 5 golfer on the roster.

"It takes a lot of pressure off the team when your No. 5 shoots even-par," said Snell.

Wedgeworth, Entriken and Jackson tied for fourth in the individual standings at 3-over. Brice Wilkinson (Fr. Madison Central/Madison) and Carter Nicholson (Fr., Pearl River Central/Carriere) were tied for seventh two more shots back.

Copiah-Lincoln's Zachary Smith won the tournament at 1-under.

Gulf Coast and Meridian played a wild playoff. Blake made a huge 10-footer on the first hole, and Jackson got up-and-down. He hit it in to about 4 feet on the second hole, which was playing 175 yards.

It kept going until the fourth extra hole.

"They had two bogeys, which meant they were going to have a bogey on their card," Snell said. "We made four pars and won it. There was some clutch playing by all five of them. It was really a team effort. Nobody did anything crazy. We just made a bunch of pars and wore them down."
