PERKINSTON — No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast will try to make it a clean sweep of regular-season MACJC golf tournament this weekend.
The Bulldogs head to Wesson to play in the fifth event of the year, having won the previous four as well as three of the other five tournaments they've played in. The two-day, 36-hole tournament tees off Saturday.
Jon Hopkins (Fr., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England), Brice Wilkinson (So., Madison Central/Madison), Carter Nicholson (So., Pearl River Central/Carriere), Jake Crosson (Fr., New Hope/Columbus) and Miles Jackson (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) will make up the five-man squad.
Gulf Coast finished second to Meridian last year at Wolf Hollow Golf Club, part of a nip-and-tuck battle with the Eagles that ended with the Bulldogs beating them by one shot for the national championship.
Both teams finished under par at the course last season.
"It's a lot better golf course than it was ten years ago," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "It's in good shape. It requires all kinds of different shots. It's got one little quirky hole you have to be careful with. It requires some thinking."
The postseason begins the following weekend at the MACJC Championship in Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond. The NJCAA District D Tournament is the next weekend in Amory, and the national championship will be held in Plymouth, Ind., May 21-24.
