PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Brice Wilkinson added another honor to an overflowing playing resume this week, being named to the 2019 All-Nicklaus Team presented by Babarsol.
The 24-person team represents the top golfers from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as the NAIA and NJCAA. The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008 and is not only named for history's greatest player but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf.
Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988 and it is now presented to the National Player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA. Award recipients have combined for more than 200 victories worldwide and claimed 23 major championships.
Wilkinson, a sophomore from Madison, was medalist in four tournaments as a sophomore, including the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 championships. He finished third at the NJCAA Division II Golf Championship, earning NJCAA All-American and All-Tournament Team honors. Wilkinson made the PING All-American first team for the second year, and won the Hubert Tucker Award for having the lowest scoring average in MACJC events. He was also a finalist for the Nicklaus Award after winning the Phil Mickelson Award as top freshman golfer in NJCAA Division II.
