PERKINSTON — No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast starts the 2019-20 MACJC golf season this weekend with a trip to Raymond.
The Bulldogs, coming off a second-place finish in a tournament in Alabama, will play in the Hinds Fall Invitational.
"It's always exciting to start conference play," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "We've got a new team coming in with Northeast. We're excited to have them back. Hopefully, we'll have some other teams back in 2020."
Six teams will play the 36-hole event at Eagle Ridge Golf Club. The Bulldogs won the event last year by coming back on the final day to edge Meridian by a stroke.
"Yardage-wise, it's fairly short," Snell said. "I think it's only 6,700 yards, very similar to the course we just played. I'm not sure who has the advantage there, but I know it helps the short-hitters."
Jon Hopkins (So., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England), Jake Crosson (So., New Hope/Columbus), Cameron Mobley (So., Northwest Rankin/Brandon), Patrick Powers (So., St. Stanislaus/Gulfport) and Nathan Woolard (So., Poplar Bluff/Poplar Bluff, Mo.) will compose the five-man team.
Snell is also getting some seasoning for four other Bulldogs, who will be playing as individuals: Hamp Fairey (So., Oak Grove/Hattiesburg), Oliver Harris (So., East Central/Hurley), Hayden Green (So., D'Iberville/Biloxi) and Peyton Norwood (Fr., Jackson Prep/Madison).
