No. 2 MGCCC surges to 8th straight win

No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast erased a five-shot deficit Saturday, surging to an eight-shot win at the Itawamba Fall Invitational in Amory.

The Bulldogs won their eighth straight MACJC tournament by finishing 3-over, beating first-round leader Meridian by 13 shots in the second round.

Jon Hopkins (So., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England) won medalist, shooting even-par to finish 3-under. He was the only golfer in the field to finish in red numbers.

Jake Crosson (So., New Hope/Columbus) joined Hopkins on the All-Tournament team. He finished even-par in a second-place tie.

Cameron Mobley (So., Northwest Rankin/Brandon) shot 73 to surge to a sixth-place tie, and Patrick Powers (So., St. Stanislaus/Gulfport) joined Hamp Fairey (So., Oak Grove/Hattiesburg) as the only golfers better than par Saturday. Their 71s moved them up 12 and 16 places, respectively. Fairey was playing as an individual.

Gulf Coast continues its road trip by heading to Joplin, Mo., to play in the NJCAA Preview Tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
