No. 2 MGCCC trails after 1st round in Amory

No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast will have some work to do to win its eighth straight MACJC tournament after digging a five-shot hole on Friday.

The Bulldogs shot 1-over 289 and trail Meridian at the Itawamba Fall Invitational, which is being played at River Birch Golf Club in Amory.

Jon Hopkins (So., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England) shot a 3-under 69 and is three shots behind first-round leader Presley Wade from Meridian. Jake Crosson (So., New Hope/Columbus) is another shot back, with Cameron Mobley (So., Northwest Rankin/Brandon) and Nathan Woolard (So., Poplar Bluff/Poplar Bluff, Mo.) tied for ninth at 3-over.

Gulf Coast will play the 18-hole final round Saturday.
