No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast is tied for third 11 shots back of the hosts after the first round in the Central Alabama Invitational, which is being played at The Preserve Golf Club in Vancleave.
Central Alabama is ranked second in the latest Golfweek NJCAA Division I Coaches Poll. The Trojans shot 10-over and are a shot ahead of No. 7 Eastern Florida State. The Bulldogs are tied with Snead State and Coastal Alabama at 21-over.
Jon Hopkins (So., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England) and Nathan Woolard (So., Poplar Bluff/Poplar Bluff, Mo.) led Gulf Coast with 3-over 74s and are tied for 10th. North Alabama's Jacob Hodges and Rob Richards, playing as individuals, are tied for the lead at 1-under 70.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final round.
