Mississippi Gulf Coast won its MACJC South Division opener over Jones County 5-0 in Ellisville on Friday. It was the Bulldogs' 15th straight regular-season victory in the division.
"We played well in spurts," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "The first 10 minutes or so were outstanding. Then we had kind of a lull. We came out the second half, played really well for five or 10 minutes. Then we went back with the starters the last 10 minutes and they scored twice."
Jordan Hall (So, Manchester, England/Royton and Crompton) and C.J. Smith (Fr, Brampton, Ontario/David Suzuki Secondary School) each had two goals and an assist. Jeff Bruni Jr. (So, Gulfport/Gulfport) picked up his first goal of the season, and Michael Rodriguez (Fr, McAllen, Texas/McAllen) had an assist.
The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 overall. JCJC is 1-2-1.
Gulf Coast plays its first home division game Tuesday when archrival Pearl River visits the MGCCC Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
