MGCCC beats JCJC 7-2 in men’s tennis

PERKINSTON — Four Mississippi Gulf Coast men won two matches each as the Bulldogs opened the 2017 MACJC season with a 7-2 win over Jones County.


Travis Bell (Fr, Jackson/Calloway), Noah Tippen (So, Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville), Noah Rowell (Fr, Wiggins/Stone) and Reid Cudd (Fr, Wiggins/Stone) won their doubles and singles matches at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.


Bell and John Murphy (Fr, Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen) defeated Diego Leal and Chase Pennington 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. The two Noahs combined to win No. 2 doubles 8-3 over Luke Armstrong and Jed Slover, and Cudd teamed with Gage Switzer (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) to win No. 3 doubles over Jacob Bozeman and Brandon McCary 8-3.


Bell didn't lose a game in a No. 1 singles win over Slover. Rowell beat Pennington 7-6 (6), 7-5 at No. 3 singles, with Tippen winning No. 4 singles over Bozeman 6-1, 6-4. Cudd downed McCary 6-4, 6-0.
