PERKINSTON — No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast opens the postseason Friday when Northeast visits Biloxi High School.
The best-of-three MACJC quarterfinal starts at 6 p.m., with Game 2 Saturday starting at 2 p.m. A third game, if necessary, starts immediately after that one.
The Lady Bulldogs (35-10, 24-4 MACJC) finished second in the conference, with the Tigers (29-19, 15-13) earning the seventh-seed by sweeping Southwest on Wednesday. It'll be the teams' second meeting at Biloxi this year. Gulf Coast swept Northeast 7-0 and 6-1 in March.
"We have to continue to pitch well, get timely head, stay aggressive on the bases," Lady Bulldogs coach Kenneth Long said. "We just have to play like a team like we've done all year."
The single game Friday night will mark the first time all season there's only been one game to look forward to. Conference games are doubleheaders, and early season tournaments feature two or even three games a day.
"It's gonna be a little bit different since we normally play doubleheaders," Long said. "This team adjusts well, so we'll just go into it like a first-game situation. Then we'll play Saturday however it turns out."
Northeast comes into Saturday having won four straight, snapping a 2-6 skid.
"They've got some speed on that team," Long said. "They got some timely hitting to get to the playoffs. They're going to be a good team."
The winner of this series advances to the MACJC Tournament, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. The other series include No. 1 Jones County vs. No. 8 Southwest, No. 3 Itawamba vs. No. 6 East Mississippi and No. 4 East Central vs. No. 5 Northwest.
