Lady Bulldogs open season at No. 14

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will start the 2018 softball season ranked 14th in the country.

The Lady Bulldogs, coming off back-to-back 40-win seasons and opening a new stadium at Ross-Smith Field, are one of two MACJC teams in the NJCAA's preseason rankings. LSU-Eunice, another Region 23 opponent, is first coming off its second consecutive national championship.

No. 2 Jones County is the other Mississippi school in the rankings.

Gulf Coast starts its season Feb. 9 at the Pearl River Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs' first home game will be Feb. 13 against Baton Rouge.
