Archrivals pay visit to No. 13 MGCCC

PERKINSTON — No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast faces archrival Pearl River in a softball doubleheader Wednesday at Ross-Smith Field.

First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. The games will be streamed at

The Lady Bulldogs will be trying to avenge a sweep by Pearl River.

Last Time Out

  • MGCCC split on the road Wednesday at East Central, winning 6-4 and losing 4-3. Mya Hopson (So., Madison Central/Madison) had a big day, going 5-for-7 with two doubles and a home run.
  • PRCC swept a pair of five-inning games against Meridian on Wednesday 10- and 14-1. Elizabeth Taggard had four hits, including three home runs, and drove in 10 runs.

Previous Meeting

Pearl River swept a pair of games at Poplarville on March 26, 2018, winning 14-8 and 9-7. Madison Wall had three hits in the first game, including a grand slam, and Kaylynn Garrett had three hits in the second.

  • Kristen Cade (Fr., Harrison Central/Saucier) is fifth in NJCAA Division II with 10.42 strikeouts per seven innings. She's seventh in strikeouts with 114.
  • Shelby Archer (Fr., Pearl River Central/Picayune) is third in the country with 12 home runs (Cheyenne Anderson, Iowa Central, 14).
