PERKINSTON — Rakeya Travis made quite the impression on the softball scene in her opening weekend, and the conference took notice.
The freshman from Poplarville is the first MACJC Player of the Week for a dominant four-game performance. In the Bulldogs' sweep of two doubleheaders from Dyersburg State, she went 6-for-7 (.857) with two home runs and a triple.
She slugged 2.000 with a 2.923 OPS, driving in seven runs, scoring nine times and walking six times. She handled eight chances at shortstop flawlessly.
Travis is now eligible for weekly honors from the NJCAA, which will be announced Wednesday.
