Gulf Coast grabs 1st win for Adams

A balanced scoring attack paced Mississippi Gulf Coast's 66-54 victory over host Baton Rouge at the Lady Bears Classic, giving Lady Bulldogs coach Hope Adams her first career victory.

 

"We had five girls get double figures," she said. "That was the difference."

 

Gulf Coast improves to 1-1 and plays Monday against Bishop State in Perkinston. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

 

Baton Rouge is 0-2.

 

Shelli Thigpen (Fr, Wylie, Texas/Wylie) had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Eanna Sims (So, Jackson/Forest Hill) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

 

J'Nitra Ratliff (So, Port Gibson/Port Gibson) added 12 points and five rebounds, Briana Thompson (Fr, Jackson/Wingfield) got 11 points and six steals, and Azaria Howard scored 10.

 

Gulf Coast sprinted out to a 7-0 lead, leading by 11 at the end of the first quarter.

 

"We came out a lot more intense," Adams said. "We were able to keep the intensity throughout the game."
