PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast lost contact with No. 11 Jones just before halftime, and could never quite crawl back into the game, falling 60-46 at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.
Jones broke a 21-21 tie five minutes before the half with a 13-3 run, and the Bulldogs only briefly got back under a double-digit deficit in the second half.
Kayla Simmons (So., Brandon/Brandon) led Gulf Coast with 11 points, including scoring seven straight during the final 3:30 of the first quarter. It was part of an 11-0 run that gave the Bulldogs a 17-10 lead.
Gulf Coast falls to 12-2, 4-2 MACJC South and are now tied for second with Southwest in the division.
Jones is now 12-2, 6-0 atop the South.
The Bulldogs now start a stretch of four straight road games starting Monday at Hinds. Tipoff in Utica will be at 5:30 p.m.
