Casey LaFontaine's header off a corner kick gave Mississippi Gulf Coast all it needed in a 1-0 victory at Southwest in Summit.
"It was a beautiful header, right in the corner," Lady Bulldogs coach Jackie Rhodes said. "Once we scored that, it gave us a little spark. We just couldn't finish. We didn't have a lot of work ethic today."
Gulf Coast picked up its first MACJC South Division victory to improve to 3-2-1 overall, 1-1-1 in division. Southwest falls to 2-3, 0-2.
LaFontaine (So., Pass Christian/Pass Christian) picked up her second goal of the season. Jess Shepherd (So., Parrswood/Manchester, England) had the assist.
Keeper Chascidi Martin (Fr., Terry/Byram) and the MGCCC defense picked up the third shutout of the season.
"We didn't play well," Rhodes said. "We didn't match our effort from the last game against Pearl River, and it showed. We were missing Erin (Longsden) on our goal-scoring opportunities, but it was just one of those games we couldn't find the back of the net."
Longsden sat out after picking up a red card in the last game. She'll be back when Gulf Coast plays at Meridian on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
