Lady Bulldogs need win for playoff push

PERKINSTON — The Mississippi Gulf Coast women's soccer team needs a win Tuesday in a big MACJC South Division showdown at the MGCCC Soccer Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-5-2, 1-3-2 South) play Southwest (4-6, 1-4) in a game starting at 5 p.m. Gulf Coast holds a slender two-point advantage for the final playoff spot over the Lady Bears in the standings.

"If we win this game, it sets us up pretty good for third place," Gulf Coast coach Jackie Rhodes said. "We still have to finish up with Meridian to make it concrete, but it's a big step tomorrow for this team."

Rains from Hurricane Nate and Monday's continuing rains have made the surface in Perkinston unplayable, and it will take place at West Harrison High School. The women will start at 6 p.m. There will be no internet broadcast.

The Lady Bulldogs got starting keeper Haley Lott (Fr., West Harrison/Gulfport) back for their 2-2 tie at Pearl River. That gives them one more field player, with Bailey LaFontaine (Fr., Pearl/Pearl) pushed back out there from her relief keeper duties.

If they can win against Southwest and Meridian, they ought to see their ranks fill out some more before the playoffs start Oct. 24.

"We're still playing with the same players we played with last week," Rhodes said." I think if we get to the playoffs, we'll have about three more players back who can be healthy."
