Mississippi Gulf Coast lost its three matches Sunday in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship in Tyler, Texas.
In No. 1 singles, The Lady Bulldogs' Margarita Lopareva (So., Moscow Russia/School No. 1101) lost to second-seeded Hana Kvapilova of Hillsborough 6-0, 6-4. Last year, the two met in the main draw semifinals.
Lopareva will move into the consolation draw of the bracket tomorrow, as will Megan Bankston (So., Gulfport/Gulfport). She lost in No. 2 singles to Iowa Central's Paulina Jankun 6-2, 6-1.
Lopareva and Bankston were defeated 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles by Agustina Diaz and Irene Romero from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude Thursday.
