No. 25 Bulldogs take 1st loss

PERKINSTON — No. 25 Mississippi Gulf Coast suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, falling 17-8 to Coastal Alabama-South at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

The Bulldogs (8-1) bullpen gave up back-to-back seven-run innings in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Coyotes are 6-4 and will host the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Saturday for another single, nine-inning game.

Anthony Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) gave Gulf Coast a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the first. Erimel Rosado (So., Dorado, Puerto Rico/Centennial) had an RBI double in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie, followed by an RBI groundout by Jordan Davis (So., Neshoba/Neshoba Central).

After the Coyotes went up 10-4 in the seventh, Gulf Coast answered with four in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Coakley (So., Covington, La./Covington) had an RBI single, and Tripp Lightsey (Fr., Lucedale/George County) singled in two more. Braxton Jones (Fr., Perkinston/Stone) coaxed a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-8.

Coastal Alabama-South put it away with seven more in the eighth.

Davis, Coakley and Rosado had two hits each. Starter Alex Love (Fr., Hernando/Northpoint Christian) had five strikeouts while allowing two runs in three innings.

Gulf Coast pitchers issued nine walks and hit four batters, giving up 4 hits.
