Four Bulldogs receive Region 23, MACJC honors
PERKINSTON – Four Mississippi Gulf Coast men's soccer players have been picked postseason awards, led by forward James Beattie.
Beattie was voted one of 11 players on the All-Region 23 soccer team. Defenders Joshua Palm and Logan Walton join midfielder Lewis Tillman on the All-MACJC team.
Gulf Coast finished 14-5 in second place in the MACJC South Division.
Beattie, a freshman from Glasgow, Scotland, tied for the team lead with 13 goals, second most in the MACJC.
"We are happy that he was honored," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "James had a good year and led us in scoring and assists. He deserves this award."
Palm, a sophomore from Jim Hill High School in Jackson, returned from a knee injury last season to score three goals and anchor the Bulldogs defense.
"Josh is a good player and was a big part of our success," Handy said. "I don't know if we do as well if he is not in the lineup."
Tillman, a sophomore from Madison Central, had five goals and three assists this year. He had goals in four of the team's last five games.
"Lewis is a very versatile player who really got better as the year went on," said Handy.
Walton, a sophomore from St. Stanislaus and Bay St. Louis, had one assist this year.
"I'm very proud of the season that Logan had," Handy said. "He was a big part of what we accomplished this year."
