Minnis, Hicks pick up more honors
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast's Moriah Minnis and Kristin Hicks have picked up more post-season awards.
Minnis was voted one of 11 players on the All-Region 23 women's soccer team, while Hicks was named to the All-MACJC squad.
Minnis, a sophomore forward from Perkinston, led Gulf Coast with seven goals. Her success was the result of things that happened long before she took the field each game.
"She's just really consistent," Gulf Coast interim head coach Jackie Rhodes said. "She is one of those kids that does the work off the field, and that translates to on the field. That's why she's deserving of being a Top XI player in the state."
Hicks, a sophomore keeper from Poplarville, ranked second in the nation with 194 saves. She won NJCAA Goalkeeper of the Week in the next-to-last week of the season when she helped upset No. 18 Jones County 1-0, stopping 39 of 40 shots on goal in two games.
"Her putting the work during the season to get better and help her team," Rhodes said, "she just shines."
Minnis and Hicks have also been selected to play in the MACJC All-Star Game, which will be played Nov. 14 at Holmes' Ridgeland Campus. The game starts at noon.
