Softball returns to action at Gulf Shores

PERKINSTON — The Mississippi Gulf Coast softball team has a busy two days ahead it themselves in the Sun Chief Classic with two games scheduled each day.
The Bulldogs will play Northwest Florida State (12-1) at 3:45 p.m. Friday in Gulf Shores, Ala., followed by a 6 p.m. game against Shelton State (2-2). On Saturday, the Bulldogs will play Snead State (5-9) at 3:45 p.m. with a nightcap against Chattanooga State (5-2) immediately following. Chattanooga State is ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division I poll.
The event will take place at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. It is being by Coastal Alabama-South.
Gulf Coast is 5-3 early in the season. The Bulldogs swept Coastal Alabama-East at Brewton on Feb. 7, so they'll be knocking some rust off after 10 days.
The Bulldogs will play their first home game on Mardi Gras when Pensacola State visits Ross-Smith Field for the first contests on the new artificial turf. First pitch in the doubleheader will be at 3 p.m.
