No. 22 MGCCC starts playoffs Tuesday in Poplarville
PERKINSTON — No. 22 Mississippi Gulf Coast will play its first postseason baseball game since 2022 on Tuesday when the Bulldogs plays Northeast Mississippi in Poplarville.
It will be the first game of the four-team, double-elimination NJCAA Region 23 Tournament hosted by Pearl River. Tickets are $15 per day and can be purchased at https://prccathletics.com/tickets. Gulf Coast finished fourth in the final MACCC standings and will play fifth-seeded Northeast Mississippi at 2 p.m. Top-seed Pearl River will play the winner of Monday's play-in game between eight-seed Northwest Mississippi and nine-seed Meridian.
Wednesday's winners' bracket game will be at 6 p.m., following the 2 p.m. losers' bracket contest.
The championship round begins Thursday, with an if-necessary game the next day.
The other Region 23 Tournament will be played in Decatur. Second-seed East Central will play the winner of the play-in between seven-seed Southwest Mississippi and 10-seed Holmes. Third-seeded Jones and and sixth-seeded Copiah-Lincoln are in the other opening-round game.
The two regional winners play in the Gulf District Championship. The winner of that best-of-three series starting May 14 advances to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla.
