Bulldogs lose twice to Northwest Florida

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped the last two games of a three-game set against last year's national runners-up on Saturday at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

Northwest Florida State won 9-4 and 14-5 to rebound from a 4-3 loss Friday night.

The Bulldogs trailed 8-1 headed to the bottom of the fifth of the opener before they got the bats going. Keilon Parnell (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula), who hit the game-winning homer Friday night, singled to drive in a run. Jacob Palazzo (So, Biloxi/Gulfport) and Keondre Fields (So, Nesbit/Magnolia Heights) made it three straight RBI singles to make it 8-4.

But they wouldn't get any closer. Fields had two RBI, and that trio had two hits each.

In the second game, Parnell singled in a run in the bottom of the first to tie the score at 1. Fields drew a bases-loaded walk, and Brandon Coakley (Fr, Covington, La./Covington) had an RBI groundout. Landon Holliman (So, Hattiesburg/Sumrall) made it 4-1 with an RBI single. 

Gulf Coast missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead in the next inning after the first three batters reached base. But the Bulldogs couldn't get anybody across.

The Raiders (11-5) tied it in the fourth and scored six the next inning to take control.

Dom Jackson (So, Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) had three hits, and Palazzo homered.

Gulf Coast (7-4) plays a pair of MACCC opponents in a non-conference tripleheader on Monday.  The Bulldogs play host Southwest Mississippi in Summit at noon, followed by a matchup with Meridian in the second game.
