Menhennett grabs national honor
PERKINSTON — Dylan Menhennett claimed the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week for his four-home run performance last week.
The sophomore third baseman from Biloxi drove in 12 runs and batted .583 during his stellar week.
"It's pay off for hard work and dedication," Menhennett said. "I'm just not thinking too much at the plate and playing the game the way it's supposed to be played."
His first home run came in a 5-0 win over Baton Rouge on Wednesday, and he added two more in an 11-0 victory over Mineral Area on Friday. He hit his third home run in three consecutive at-bats his first time up in the nightcap against MAC, a 14-2 win.
Over a stretch of eight plate appearances, he went 5-for-6 with three home runs, a double, a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
"It's a great honor. With the start he's on, he deserves it," Gulf Coast coach Rodney Batts said. "The national honor is great for him. The numbers speak for themselves. The streak he's on right now, I'm not saying too much to him. I hope he keeps doing what he's doing."
Dylan extended his home run streak to four games in the opener against Nunez on Wednesday this week. He leads the country with six homers.
