No. 20 Bulldogs lose twice at No. 18 PRCC

No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a pair of 6-2 decision at No. 18 Pearl River on Tuesday in Poplarville in a showdown of two of the six MACJC teams in the NJCAA top 20.

The Bulldogs (20-6, 4-4 MACJC) couldn't get enough timely hits, leaving 10 runners on in each game.

Alden Davis (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) continued his torrid hitting pace with a bases-loaded RBI single in the third inning of Game 1 to open the scoring. The Bulldogs' next three batters, however, left the bases loaded for setting the tone for the doubleheader.

Pearl River took a 3-1 lead, which Davis cut into in the fifth with an RBI double. The Bobcats, however, pulled away to seal the win.

Davis had three hits, and Brandon Parker (Fr, West Harrison/Saucier) had a double.

Josh Lewis (So, Theodore/Mobile Ala.) took the loss, allowing six hits and three runs in six innings. He's 1-1.

Pearl River took a 2-0 lead its first time up in Game 2 and extended the lead to three in the second.

Logan McGrew (So, Sumrall/Sumrall) got an RBI single in the third, and another Bulldog run scored on a passed ball. Again, the Bulldogs saw PRCC pull away.

Parker and McGrew had two hits each, and Cullan O'Shea (Fr, Mary G. Montgomery/Mobile, Ala.) doubled.

Blaise Butirich (R-Fr, St. Patrick/Biloxi) started and took the loss to fall to 1-1.

PRCC is 20-4 and undefeated in six conference games.

Gulf Coast returns to action Saturday at Holmes. First pitch in the doubleheader in Goodman is at 2 p.m.
