Flowers Scholarship to be awarded Saturday

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will honor former men's tennis player Skyler Flowers with a scholarship presentation ceremony Saturday.

Flowers died in a car accident in May 2017, and his parents are setting up the Skyler Flowers Memorial Scholarship to honor his memory. The first winner will be announced at 11 a.m. at the MGCCC Tennis Complex before the Bulldogs take on Copiah-Lincoln.

Flowers, who went to Ocean Springs High School, played No. 1 singles and doubles at Perkinston during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, helping the Bulldogs to a 26-2 MACJC record. The 2014-15 team went undefeated in the conference during the regular season.

He was named Academic All-MACJC as a sophomore, an award for students with a GPA between 3.25-379.

At Ocean Springs, he won three straight Class 6A boys singles titles and helped the Greyhounds win their fourth consecutive team title as a senior.
