Jones wins MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Kristian Jones' week of eye-popping numbers didn't go unnoticed, with the designated hitter earning MACCC Player of the Week honors.
Jones, a freshman from DeSoto Central, batted .667 with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI in leading an overpowering offensive performance in a 4-0 week by No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The award was voted on by the conference sports information directors and released by the MACCC Tuesday.
Jones went 3-for-4 in both halves of a doubleheader sweep at Hinds (9-6, 12-0) with a double in both games and a grand slam in the second. Jones went 5-for-5 with a homer, a double and four RBI in a 14-10 win at Northwest Mississippi and singled in her first at-bat in a 16-7 win to extend a streak of seven consecutive at-bats with hits.
Jones is now eligible for NJCAA weekly honors, which will be announced Wednesday.
