Jones wins 2nd MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Kristian Jones put up another extraordinary statistical week, so it was no surprise she has been named MACCC Softball Player of the Week for the second time in 2021.
The freshman designated hitter/third baseman from Southaven batted .692 with three homers and 10 RBI in an unbeaten week for the No. 2 Bulldogs. Gulf Coast remains unbeaten in conference play, alone in first place.
The award was voted on by conference sports information directors and announced Tuesday.
Jones had two home runs, including the go-ahead grand slam in a comeback 19-18 win over East Central where she drove in six. She went 3-for-4 in a 7-6 victory in Game 2.
Jones had a homer and three RBI in a 14-0 win over Coahoma, then went 2-for-2 in a 13-3 win in the second contest.
She is now eligible for the NJCAA's weekly award.
