Errors did in Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday as the Bulldogs dropped a pair against Holmes in Goodman.
Gulf Coast made seven errors in a 20-4 loss in the opener, then made two costly errors in a five-run Holmes sixth of the nightcap. Holmes went on to win 7-6 in nine innings.
Gulf Coast falls to 16-10, 6-4 MACJC. Holmes is now 14-14, 5-7.
Brian Lane had five more hits on the day for Gulf Coast, raising his average 21 points to .381. He drove in three runs.
Gulf Coast had 14 hits and Holmes made three errors in the second game, but the Bulldogs managed only six runs.
After Holmes took a 6-5 lead in the sixth, Justin Nussbaum delivered a two-out double to tie the game and eventually forcing extra innings.
Lane had three hits in the nightcap, with Nussbaum, Marcus Buckley, Michael Shubert and Aaron Nicholson adding two.
Ethan Necaise (0-3) took the loss after 2.2 innings of two-hit relief.
In the opener, Brian Lane, Michael Shubert and Tyler Evans had two hits. Shubert doubled.
Starter Tyler Rachel (1-1) took the loss in the opener, getting charged with 10 runs in 3.2 innings. Only one of the runs was earned thanks to all the errors.
Gulf Coast returns to action with a home doubleheader Tuesday against Jones that will be played at William Carey in Hattiesburg. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
