No. 20 MGCCC splits at Co-Lin

No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast got a split Wednesday on the road at Copiah-Lincoln after rallying late to win the first game 9-6.

Co-Lin got a complete-game two-hitter from Hunter Fortenberry in the second to win 5-1 in Wesson.

The Bulldogs are 13-7 overall, 2-2 in the MACJC. Gulf Coast plays again Saturday at Coahoma. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.

Co-Lin is 8-11, 3-1.

Gulf Coast trailed 5-3 headed into the eighth inning of the opener but pushed across four runs to surge ahead.

Ian Goff (So., George County/George County) got plunked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run, and Chase Rhodes' grounder was misplayed by the Co-Lin shortstop to allow two runs to score and give Gulf Coast a 6-5 lead.

Tyler Evans (So., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) got a sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.

After the Wolfpack got a run back in the bottom of the eighth, Matt Muhleisen (Fr., Holy Cross/Harvey, La.) squeezed Logan McGrew (Fr., Sumrall/Sumrall) home. Champ Davison (So., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) singled in the final run.

Jantsen Glasgow (Fr., Caledonia/Caledonia) had three hits, and Rhodes had a double and three RBI.

Mason Sullivan (So., Harrison Central/Saucier) picked up his second win of the season with 1.1 innings of one-run ball. Brandon Kennedy (So., Choctaw Central/Philadelphia) got his fourth save with a one-hit ninth.

In the second game, Gulf Coast only managed two hits. Its lone run scored thanks to a two-out throwing error in the sixth.

Josh Lewis (Fr., Theodore/Theodore) allowed five hits and three earned runs to fall to 1-2. Hayden Harrell (Fr., Stone/Perkinston) didn't allow a hit or baserunner in his 1.2 innings of relief.
