Buggs, Rowland named Sporting News Super Sophomores
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast's Isaiah Buggs and Joshua Rowland have been named to The Sporting News' 25-player Super Sophomore list in the magazine's preseason football publication.
Buggs, perhaps the most coveted junior college defensive lineman in the 2017 class, led the Bulldogs with four sacks among his eight tackles for loss as a freshman. The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder from Ruston, La., had 42 tackles and 17 assists on his way to selection as All-MACJC South Division.
Rowland, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound kicker from Madison, made 16 of 19 field goals in his freshman season. He nailed all 44 extra point attempts and was named NJCAA All-American, All-Region and All-MACJC South Division. His 92 points were fourth most in the country, and he ranked second in field goal accuracy among kickers with 10 or more attempts at 84 percent.
Gulf Coast opens its 2016 season on Sept. 1 when the Bulldogs visit Itawamba. The first home game at A.L. May Memorial Stadium will be Sept. 8 when East Mississippi visits Perkinston.
