Dean, Rowland named NJCAA All-Americans

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast sophomores Reggio Dean and Joshua Rowland were named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team on Thursday.

Dean, a linebacker from Northeast Jones, had 34 tackles and 24 assists this season. He had nine tackles for loss, including four sacks, and forced two fumbles.  Dean had two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown against Hinds.

He will continue his career at Central Arkansas.

"There's nobody more deserving of an All-American award than Reggio," Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said. "He's my All-American, and we'll miss him. He's been great for Gulf Coast and that's an outstanding achievement for him. Anything that kid does doesn't surprise me at all."

Rowland, a kicker from Madison Central, makes his second appearance on the All-American list. He was also named to the second team as a freshman. In his sophomore season, Rowland made nine of 12 field goal attempts and 32 of 33 extra points.

He made 25 of 31 field goals during his career and 76 of 77 extra points. Rowland has signed a scholarship to kick at Texas.

"He's very consistent," Huff said. "He came back and duplicated his honor with his hard work and dedication. That's hard to do. I'm excited and proud for Josh."
