Rowland named NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — MGCCC kicker Joshua Rowland has been named NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rowland was perfect on four field goal and point after attempts in a 47-35 win at Southwest. Three of his field goals were from beyond 40 yards.
"It's fantastic to get it," Rowland said. "It was a great game we played. We fought hard, and I'm glad to get back in the swing of things and get to how I was last season. I hate I got off to such a slow start, but I'm glad to pick it up sooner rather than later."
Rowland made two field goals of 44 yards, one from 42 and a 22-yarder.
"We have all the confidence in the world in Josh. He's consistent in the kcioffs, pinning guys deep, making offenses have to start at the 25. He was a big part of our win last week, and I proud to see the recognition he's getting."
Gulf Coast (4-3, 3-1 MACJC South) plays archrival Pearl River at homecoming Saturday at A.L. May Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
