Last two matches clinch Gulf Coast win over JCJC
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast needed every bit of its depth Wednesday to pull out a win against Jones County at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 in MACJC play after victories in the last two matches on the court, Nos. 5 and 6 singles, to claim a 5-4 win.
"Brett Bowen and Brennan O'Keefe came through for us and pushed us over the top," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "We were down 4-3. Brett tied it, and Brennan closed it out."
Bowen defeated Luke Armstrong 6-1, 6-0 and O'Keefe won 6-1, 6-4 over John Hester.
O'Keefe and Noah Tippen won at No. 2 doubles, with Skyler Flowers winning No. 1 singles and Tippen at No. 3 singles.
Gulf Coast returns to action next week with a pair of road matches. The Bulldogs play at Northeast on Tuesday and Itawamba the next day.
