No. 18 Gulf Coast dominates Northwest
PERKINSTON – Only a pair of third-set tiebreakers prevented No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast from sweeping Northwest on Saturday.
The Bulldogs won 7-2 at the MGCCC Tennis Complex to improve to 9-1 in MACJC play.
"We played really strong," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "We lost two tough tiebreakers, but everybody else played real solid."
Brett Bowen dropped a close 14-12 tiebreaker in the third after teaming up with Chris Diep to dominate Northwest 8-0 in No. 3 doubles.
No. 2 singles player Sam Blackburn and No. 6 Brennan O'Keefe dropped only one game in sweeping their matches.
"I hope this is a preview of next week, especially when we go on the road to Jones and Co-Lin," Bourgeois said. "I hope we're really ready to play going into the last part of the season. I preach it's not how you start, but it's how you finish. I hope we're ready to finish strong."
