No. 5 Bulldogs power past Hinds 7-0

PERKINSTON — No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast is getting on a roll headed into the postseason, and Linda Mustered powered another powerful Bulldogs performance Friday. Gulf Coast beat Hinds 7-0 at Bary Thrash Field with Mustered registering a hat trick.

"Linda's been working really hard in training and done a lot of good things," Gulf Coast Ryan Joiner said. "It's nice to see her get on the scoresheet like that as we get into the final game and into the postseason. I hope she can continue that hot streak."

The Bulldogs won their two games this week 15-0 and have scored 18 straight during a three-game shutout streak. They are 10-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the MACCC, tied for second. They've locked up at worst a third seed in the NJCAA Gulf South District tournament.

Vanessa Radojevic (Fr., Sciez, France/Lycee De La Versoie) scored another spectacular goal to open the scoring eight minutes in. Three minutes later, Anna Katherine Thriffiley (Fr., Biloxi/St. Patrick) scored a beauty, before Mustered got her first two before halftime. The second was assisted by Nakiya Richardson (Fr., Gulfport/Biloxi).

Jennifer Lopez (So., Gautier/Gautier) scored in the second half with an assist from Laylah Johnson (So., Gulfport/Gulfport), who got one of her own to make it 6-0. Reagan Chancelor (Fr., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) assisted.

Mustered closed out her hat trick with an 86th-minute penalty kick.

"The first 20 minutes were a bit of a struggle," Joiner said. "I'm happy to have played all of our team tonight. We scored some really good goals and played really good soccer for the last 70 minutes. We're happy with another three points and another shutout."

Gulf Coast closes out the regular season Tuesday when Itawamba visits. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host a quarterfinal on Oct. 31, with the winner advancing to the semifinal in Ridgeland on Nov. 6.
