New MGCCC Athletic Hall of Fame process goes into effect
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has officially unveiled its updated nomination and voting procedures for the MGCCC Athletic Hall of Fame, outlining a structured and transparent process to recognize outstanding former student-athletes, coaches, and contributors.
The Athletic Hall of Fame exists to honor individuals who have demonstrated excellence in athletics and made meaningful contributions to the College. The revised policy establishes clear eligibility requirements, timelines, and voting procedures to ensure deserving candidates are properly considered and recognized.
Eligibility Criteria
Nominees must be separated from the College for at least five years. Coaches must have served a minimum of five years at MGCCC and be retired or no longer coaching at the College, while demonstrating distinguished achievement, such as championship success, coaching honors, or program development.
Student-athletes must have competed at least one full season and shown exceptional performance through honors, records, or success at higher levels of competition. Contributors who have provided consistent and distinguished service to the College and community are also eligible.
Nomination Process and Timeline
Nominations are open to the public, including Bulldog Club members and non-members, and must be submitted using the official nomination form available on the MGCCC Athletics website.
For the 2026 cycle, nominations will close May 31. In future years, the annual deadline will be May 15. Voting ballots will be distributed by June 10 and must be returned by June 30. The new Hall of Fame class will be announced by August 1 each year.
Each nomination must include a detailed resume or summary of achievements, with nominators responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness. Nominees who are not selected will remain on the ballot for up to three years total before requiring re-nomination after a waiting period.
Review and Vetting
All nominations will be reviewed by the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee for eligibility and completeness. The committee will evaluate candidates based on athletic achievement, citizenship, service to the College, and overall reputation. Only approved nominees will advance to the official ballot.
Voting and Selection
Voting will be conducted annually by active, paid Bulldog Club members in good standing. Up to five inductees may be selected each year, with no more than three from the same sport.
The Hall of Fame Committee also retains the ability to select one additional inductee annually. In total, no more than six individuals may be inducted in a given year.
Final Approval
All selected inductees will be submitted to College administration for formal acknowledgment before being officially named to the MGCCC Athletic Hall of Fame class.
The updated procedures are designed to ensure fairness, consistency, and continued excellence in honoring the legacy of Mississippi Gulf Coast athletics.
