Owens, Gaughf named Bulldogs of the Week
PERKINSTON — Elijah Owens and Malorie Gaughf have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Sept. 8-14.
Owens, a freshman cornerback from Mobile, Ala., tied with a team-high 11 tackles in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 28-24 win at Jones. Seven of those tackles were solos, and he helped hold the Bobcats to 121 passing yards.
Gaughf, a freshman middle blocker from Gulfport, had 13 total blocks in two matches for the Bulldogs.
Also nominated:
Mariah Hammond, a freshman outside hitter from Slidell, La., had 18 kills in two matches for the Bulldogs.
Alexander Mink, a sophomore midfielder from Long Beach, had four goals during a 1-1 week, including a hat trick to help beat Georgia Military 4-1.
Joshua Selmes, a freshman punter from Central Coast, Australia, pinned Jones inside its own 20 four times in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 28-24 win at Jones. He punted seven times for a 40.1-yard average, with a long of 65 yards.
Alan Woods, a freshman running back from Jacksonville, Fla., ran for 84 yards and caught 82 yards of passes for No. 6 Gulf Coast in a 28-24 win at Jones. He scored a rushing touchdown after setting it up with an acrobatic 64-yard catch-and-run.
